Remembering Your Smile
I fell on my knees, the phone slipping from my fingers. I knew someone was still talking on the other side, consoling. You were gone, and that’s all I knew. Lost forever after years of walking together.
I remember meeting you, when we were still children – new to the world, eyes still blinking into the light. I watched you change, while you made me laugh. I knew we were right, just right. Days became weeks, and before I knew it, I had known your smile for fourteen years, and in an instant that was gone. Deleted and erased from the world, but not really, because to your smile, I still tear up.
